al-Usul al-Munifa li’l Imam Abi Hanifa

£499.00 or £50.00 / month for 10 months

الأصول المنيفة للإمام أبي حنيفة

This course is a thorough study of the beautiful text by Kamal al-Din al-Bayadi known as al-Usul al-Munifa lil-Imām Abī Ḥanīfa in which he distilled the five treatises dictated by Imam Abu Hanifa: al-Fiqh al-Akbar, al-Risala, al-Fiqh al-Absat, al-`Alim wal-Muta`allim, and al-Wasiyya. Even though the course revolves in the orbit of the original and early texts of the madhhab, it begins with introductory lectures about the origination and the development of the Hanafi or Maturidi school of theology and its sub-schools. This exceptional text is essential for Hanafi students and anyone who is interested in studying a transmitted Hanafi Creed through its original sources. (THIS IS LATE REGISTRATION–SEE DETAILS BELOW)

Description: For some time, students of knowledge have struggled to find access to a solid set of courses in Maturidi Theology which explain Hanafi creed in its purest form–this is the beginning of the solution, with Allah’s Permission. Imam al-Bayadi’s text – which is composed of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion – encompasses, in a structured and refined format, the tenets of creed through the words of Imam Abu Hanifa himself. Students in this course will be able to trace the theological positions of the Hanafi or Maturidi school to the words of the founder. This course will also allow students to examine commentaries of al-Fiqh al-Akbar and al-Tahawi’s Creed, as well as al-Bayadi’s own work, Isharat al-Maram. Distinctions between Hanafi/Maturidi theological positions and other Sunni theological positions will be made whenever it is necessary for students’ conceptualization of the discussed texts, but this course is not a comparitive theology course. Previous recordings and course resources will be available to registered students. **Students registering in or post Ramadan 2023 have missed the majority of the text (recordings available), but they will be able to attend live for the remainder of the course.**
